A Quick Word About the Anthony Recommends
I´m often asked, by customers and the press, what´s "the best" book to read on a particular game. If I can get all the details about what they´re looking for, I can usually come up with a good selection. But often, I don´t have all the details. In such cases, I choose a book that I feel is beginner-friendly, but also has enough advanced information to accommodate someone who´s played before, and will improve their results. This is the primary guideline I use in the choices that follow.
I hope you won´t be concerned that many (not all) of the choices are Huntington Press titles. The truth is, we set out to acquire and produce the best products in gambling, and in many cases, that´s what we´ve done.
Knock-Out Blackjack
This book works for all levels of player, first teaching basic strategy (which is only enough to get you close to even with the casinos), then detailing the K-O card-counting system. If you want to learn to count, the K-O count is as advertised—the easiest to learn and play, because it simplifies the mathematics of counting. Start with Chapter 5—the “K-O Rookie System”—which you should be able to use quickly. Even if you don’t want to count, Knock-Out Blackjack still has enough good information to qualify as the best book for new players.
After K-O, I recommend HP’s new book Blackjack Blueprint, which takes you through the process of learning to play blackjack on an expert level. This book has just come back from the printer.
The best software currently on the market is Norm Wattenberger’s Casino Verite.
